The city stretches across a bustling modern center, a historic old town, and an ancient fishing village—together forming the heart of the wider region known as Maraheim County.

Yet Maraheim is more than a city. It is a place built on questions that have never been fully answered.

The central mystery of Maraheim is not a single legend, but a lingering suspicion shared by its inhabitants: that the city exists where the boundaries between worlds are unusually thin. For generations, people have reported encounters with ghosts, strange creatures, unexplained disappearances, and phenomena that defy rational explanation. Stories of haunted schools, cursed estates, and ancient forest spirits weave through the city's history, passed down alongside modern accounts of eerie sightings and unsolved events.

Some believe Maraheim rests upon a convergence of unseen forces. Others claim it is simply a place where humanity’s fears, grief, and memories refuse to fade.

Scholars at institutions such as the Grand Library and the Osman Observatory have proposed more unusual explanations. Their research suggests that Maraheim may be touched by a mysterious force known as Aionium, an energy believed to connect different planes of existence. According to this theory, Maraheim is not cursed or blessed—it is simply open.

THE PARANORTH GROUP
The world of Maraheim is brought to life through the work of the Paranorth Group, a creative collaboration dedicated to exploring supernatural storytelling, folklore, and atmospheric horror.

The group was founded by Nick Olsson and Matthias Ransheim, whose shared fascination with ghost stories, mysterious folklore, and eerie places laid the foundation for what would become the Maraheim Project. What began as a creative exploration of strange legends and unsettling ideas gradually evolved into a fully realized fictional world—one where countless stories, entities, and mysteries intersect.

Nick shapes the narrative heart of Maraheim. As the primary writer and worldbuilder behind the project, he develops the mythology, stories, and hidden histories that define the city and its surrounding county. Drawing inspiration from folklore, psychological horror, and the unknown, he constructs a world where the supernatural is woven into everyday life.
​
Matthias gives that world its visual identity. Through illustration and artistic design, he brings Maraheim’s creatures, spirits, and environments into tangible form, capturing the unsettling beauty and eerie atmosphere that define the setting.

Together, their work forms the foundation of the Maraheim universe, explored through several interconnected projects:
